RF Oscillators Obtained From Coupled Nanomechanical Devices

Abstract:
We present the development of an RF nanomechanical oscillator distinguished by its composite structure. Consisting of an array of high-frequency elements coupled to a low-stiffness element, this novel device allows for the generation of high-amplitude responses at GHz frequencies. This behavior is enforced due to the existence of a class of normal modes intrinsic to the structure in which the high-frequency elements oscillate in phase and generate a large response in the coupled low-stiffness element. This and related devices are presented as candidates for the next generation of RF frequency-selective devices and filters for wireless communications.
