Measurement of Zeptomole Neurotransmitters Released from Hydrogel Entrapped Living PC-12 Cells on sCNT- Pd/Pt modified Electrochemical Electrodes Integrated with a Capillary Electrophoresis Nano-Chip

Abstract:
This paper demonstrates the detection possibility of zeptomole level neurotransmitters released from several living cells by a 2D EOF-flowFET (2D gradient Electroosmotic Flow-flow field effect transistor) incorporated with a singlewall carbon nanotube (sCNT)-Pd-Pt nanostructure-modified detection electrodes integrated on a CE-EC micro/nano chip. Through the enhancement of 2D EOF-flowFET control system and nanoparticle modified electrode surface, the total redox coulomb number can be improved by 9.5 and 16 folds, respectively. Therefore a 150-fold enhancement in total leads to ~ 3.3 zeptomole (0.33 nM) detection limit for dophomine on this chip. The detection of ~ 10 zeptomole (1.0 nM) neurotransmitters released from 5-6 living neural cells was also realized by this novel chip system.
