Abstract: Newly developed hardware and electrically controlled extinguishable solid propellants are a first of their kind, capable of multiple ignitions-extinguishments with burn-rate controlled digitally by electrical power input. These “propellants” are insensitive to flame ignition, do not produce toxic combustion gases and are low in particulates. We have demonstrated: 1) casting into thin layers; 2) vacuum casting into complex geometries; and 3) the basis for solid-state “pneumatic batteries” with this environmentally friendly, low hazard propellant. Initial military applications-customers are microchip-based rocket thrusters used in the growing sector of microsatellites, and new multi-fire igniters for restarting rocket motors and safe tactical ACS systems. Phase I SBIR Award funding, commercial aerospace orders and a National Laboratory teaming were accomplished in the first six months of operations. Broad utility patents have been filed. The aerospace applications lead to high value niche FX, medical and electronics applications, once secrecy orders are lifted. Our safe, multi-fire igniters will displace conventional FX pyrotechnics, while their new safety and versatility expands the market. FX revenues will fuel the longer lead-times for pneumatic battery use in medical and electronics devices. A seed investor is sought for technology and industrial property investment.
