Owlstone Nanotech Inc.
Owlstone Nanotech is a developer of a proprietary, innovative gas sensing technology, which offers an attractive combination of low cost, high sensitivity, small size, low power consumption, reprogammability, and high chemical selectivity. Analogous to a microchip in a computer, the key element of the Owlstone sensor is a small silicon chip that provides a chemical-sensing mechanism at performance levels far superior to existing technologies.
Chemical sensing is a component technology that can be applied within a vast array of end-products and vertical markets – from battlefields and airport screening to manufacturing process control and home smoke detectors. The ability to identify specific gases and take immediate action in response can help save lives, improve manufacturing quality, reduce production costs and improve quality of life, depending upon the application. Because of its unique benefits, Owlstone’s sensor is poised to improve the performance of current sensing products as well as pave the way for new and revolutionary product development.
The genesis for Owlstone came from Andrew Koehl, a Ph.D. student at the University of Cambridge in England, who connected with two fellow students with complementary expertise, Paul Boyle (micro fabrication) and David Ruiz-Alonso (simulation modeling), to form Owlstone.
