Abstract:
Founded in 2004 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Liquidia Technologies develops applications based on the Liquidia Material Platform; a breakthrough in materials research pioneered in the laboratories of Professors Joseph DeSimone and Edward T. Samulski. Liquidia moved from its incubator space on UNC’s campus to new laboratory space in RTP, NC and anticipates growing to a staff of 12 by year end.
Liquidia’s initial focus is on developing microfluidics applications in partnership with leading research firms, and is evaluating potential customers in the areas of soft lithography and particle fabrication. Liquidia will ally with current semiconductor fabrication services providers to compete directly with or enhance the value of chip fabrication companies, providing customers with applications that dramatically reduce production costs and improve resolution. In the area of nanoparticle fabrication, Liquidia has a strong first mover advantage, and will move to form partnerships quickly to capitalize on this opportunity. Approaches to major pharmaceutical research companies are currently underway and will produce revenue in the form of co-development fees and licensing royalties. Since Liquidia’s Liquidia Material Platform is a potentially a major disruptive technology, the obtainable market share across a number of industries is enormous.
