Abstract:
As national economies are driven more and more by innovation, one of the great challenges we face lies in optimizing the process of connecting technological push with unmet market pull. But are the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of profit complementary, mutually exclusive, symbiotic, or all of the above? Before we embark on the daunting task of carrying the next hot discovery across the valley of death, it is important to pause and appreciate the myriad of social, emotional, technical, commercial and process obstacles that lie at the root of this question. Can we do more than just rely on serendipity alone? Dr. Stevens will address the challenges faced by professional technology matchmakers in sourcing new discoveries, pushing technologies to market, and fueling the innovation economy.
