Abstract:
A glovebox is a controlled environment work enclosure providing a primary barrier from the work area. Operations are performed through sealed gloved openings to protect the worker, the ambient environment and/or the product. This session will present a brief history of the use of gloveboxes in the containment of hazardous materials. Also included will be a summary of the American Glovebox Society’s “Guidelines for Gloveboxes” which provides detailed information on design, fabrication, operation, maintenance and decommissioning practices for gloveboxes. In addition the basic concepts for containment will be discussed.
