Critical Cleaning Using CO2 Snow

R. Sherman
Applied Surface Technologies, US

Keywords:
CO2 snow cleaning, critical cleaning, contamination control

Abstract:
CO2 snow cleaning is a new and powerful tool for precision cleaning; it removes particles and organic contamination from surfaces. CO2 snow cleaning involves the formation and acceleration of small dry ice for surface cleaning. Over the past two decades, CO2 snow cleaning has proved to be an effective surface cleaning process. Particle removal has been documented over a range from visible sizes down to .03 microns. Organic contamination removal matches those of commercial solvents to reagent grade solvents. Further, it is a residue-free and nondestructive cleaning method. In this talk, CO2 snow cleaning is reviewed with emphasis on how the process works, cleaning mechanisms, cleaning parameters, equipment, and applications.
