Northern Ireland Nanotechnology
Booth: 201
Invest NI, Northern Ireland's premier economic development agency, strongly believes that the key to future economic growth is the ability to exploit new ideas successfully. That is why Invest NI offers a range of programmes to assist and support innovation, research & development, the creation of intellectual property and technology transfer, all of which are seen as key drivers in the development of a world-class knowledge-based economy capable of addressing the global challenges of the 21st century.
Northern Ireland has a rich history of industrial innovation. Many people will be surprised to learn that the pneumatic tire, vertical take-off and landing aircraft and aircraft ejection seats were developed by Northern Ireland engineers. More recent innovations include the portable cardiac defibrillator, zero emission public transport vehicles, software enabling cell phones to connect to the internet and revolutionary therapeutics based on novel medical peptides.
Invest NI hopes that the future economic growth of the region will be boosted by developments arising from the research and development being carried out within Nanotec NI, a joint venture between Queen's University Belfast and the University of Ulster. Nanotec NI aims to achieve global impact for the extensive nanotechnology R & D activities that are flourishing within the two Universities.
