Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) started Nanotechnology Support Project in 2002 in order to encourage interdisciplinary research collaboration. Its main functions are common use facilities and informational support. In common use facilities, 14 universities and national research institutes have been supplying opportunities to use high voltage TEMs, synchrotron radiation, nano-foundries, and molecular synthesis and analysis. In informational support, Nanotechnology Researchers Network Center of Japan (nanonet) has been supplying information through the internet, organizing and supporting symposia, workshops, and international collaboration such as joint symposia and the exchange of young researchers with the USA and European countries.
