Synthesis of Spinel Ferrite Particle/Organic Hybrid from Metal-Organics

Abstract:
Spinel particle/organic hybrids were succsessfully synthesized from metal-organics below 100oC. Chlated iron- (iron allylacetylacetonate) and nickel-organics were used as starting materials. Two nickel-metal organics (nickel acetylacetonate (NA) and nickel diammine propenylacetylacetonate (NPA)) were investigated. The hybrid materials were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TEM and VSM. Nano-sized nickel ferrite particles were unformly crystallized in an organic matrix via controlled hydrolysis of starting metal-oragnics. TEM and SAD revealed the uniform dispersion of crystalline nickel ferrite particles below 10 nm. The chemical bond between nanoparticles and chelated organics was confirmed by FT-IR. Nickel ferrite particles from NPA revealed higher crystallinity and saturation magnetization than those from NA. Both hybrids showed the superparamagnetic behavior at 300K due to nano-sized particles.
