Biography:

Sandeep Malhotra, 36, is Vice President of Nanotechnology at Ardesta LLC, an investment firm that specializes in MEMS & Nanotechnology. Malhotra's focus is on the commercialization of nanotechnology being developed at leading universities and research labs in North America and Europe, through the formation of start-ups as well as investments in early-stage companies. He also actively works with Global 500 companies to establish partnerships, license intellectual property, and spin out companies in order to exploit the broad commercial potential of nanoscale science and engineering. The scope of his investment activity includes nanotechnology applications in the areas of Life Sciences, Medical Diagnostics & Devices, Energy Storage, and Information Technology.

Prior to joining Ardesta, Malhotra worked at Broadview International, a global mergers and acquisitions advisor and private equity investor serving information technology, communications and media companies. At Broadview Malhotra's M&A activity spanned the Semiconductor, Telecommunications, and Data Storage markets. He worked with several private as well as public companies on the buy and sell side. He coauthored a white paper in early 1999 on the topics of IPOs vs. M&A, predicting that the majority of technology IPOs would yield negative returns to their shareholders.

Malhotra spent six years of his career in Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector where he held managerial positions in Research & Development, Manufacturing, and Strategic Planning. Malhotra was one of the key members of the 0.5 micron R&D team at Motorola that introduced 365nm I-line photolithography into the company's wafer fabs. He also managed the company's only SiGe development group focused on the use of band-gap engineering for RF products. Subsequently he managed yield enhancement and technology transfer for several product platforms from pilot production to high-volume manufacturing. Malhotra also led a group that conducted a comprehensive product portfolio analysis for Motorola's Semiconductor business.

Malhotra holds an MBA from Harvard University and an MS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. He received a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India.
