E. Maruyama Frontier Research System RIKEN, JP
Biography:
Eiichi Maruyama holds the position of Director of Frontier Research System, at The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, (RIKEN), Japan since 1999. Since 1999, he is a Professor at the National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies. He received his Ph.D in Engineering from Osaka University, Japan, and holds degrees in history and philosophy of science, and solid state physics from the University of Tokyo, Japan. From 1959 to 1993, Prof. Maruyama was with Hitachi, Ltd, where he rose to the position of Director. In 1992 and 1993, he was a visiting professor at Waseda University. From 1993 to 1999 he held the position of Executive Director at Angstrom Technology Partnership. In 1999, Prof. Maruyama joined RIKEN as Advisor, International frontier Research Program. Prof. Maruyama has received a number of prestigious awards including 1977 Hoso Bunka Foundation Prize, 1977 Niwa-Takayanagi Prize, Institute of Television Engineers of Japan, 1978 Kanto Local Commendation for Invention, 1979 Okouchi Memorial Grand Production Prize, 1980 National Commendation for Invention (Commendation by the Minister of State for Science and Technology), 1981 Awards for Persons of Scientific and Technological Research Merits of Commendation by the Ministry of State for Science and Technology, 1997 Kanto Local Commendation for Invention.
