Information coding for intramolecular integration of logic functionality

Although molecular electronics has a great potential, the feasibility of this technology will be however conditioned by the possibility of building complex circuits. But while on the technological versant rapid progresses have been accomplished during the last years in manipulating either CNTs or organic molecules, we still lack a formal framework for information processing at nanoscale. All state of the art proposals for nanoscale architectures either present global architectural solutions or simply try to translate classical concepts like resistor-diode logic at nanoscale. In this paper we propose a formal framework for intramolecular integration of complex functionality that explicitly takes into account the quantum effects appearing at nanoscale. We focus on a particular aspect of this framework: passing from a logical function to an intermediate representation based on the Landauer-Buttiker formalism.
